Based on cave paintings from the Dunhuang Cave Grottoes in Western China, specifically patrons of Buddhist art. Patrons came from different dynasties and regions, across thousands of years and from all corners of Asia, pooling together to create an artistic marvel.

Drawing inspiration the Early Tang Dynasty mural section of Dunhuang, this ensemble encapsulates the style, silhouette, and colors of a high class woman in ancient China.

Start with the Chuiling Shan 垂领衫 (drooping collar shirt), low collars were popular during this period. Cross collar garments were traded in as skirt lengths rose - no need for extra bulk with extra high skirts!

Then add the prized layer of the Tang: the Beizi 褙子 (short jacket). Based on textile artifacts, these fun jackets have a lovely sheen to highlight the intricate patterns. Choose from a light blue and cinnabar (orange) jacket, or begonia red jacket! Both have bold geometric prints and mandalas, popular motifs of the era.

Next up is the star of the show, the Qixiong Poqun 齐胸破裙 (chest high "broken" skirt). While its name may be "broken", it refers to the many long panels of fabric needed to create one large skirt. This version features 36 colored panels.

Tied above the bust, the stripes create an elongated and ethereal effect. This skirt is based on silhouettes from the end of Early Tang, AKA it has a bit more swing and flow. Available in cinnabar orange or serene green!

Finally, feel free to add the adorable Mofu 陌腹 (waist warmer). This decorative band was a stylish way to add extra warmth, flair, and versatility. Tie above the bust for a regal look, or tie at the waist to keep your skirt in place while on the move.

Don't forget the Pibo 披帛 (shawl), this long decorative scarf is integral to any high class lady's outfit.
