Hand woven and hand bound bamboo fan, based on artifacts from the Mawangdui Tomb.
During the earlier dynasties, before the advent of circular fans, these flag-shaped fans were popularly used by men and women of all classes. The look was similar to a large butcher's knife, hence the name - Dao Shan 刀扇 "knife fan".
Also known as Hu Shan 户扇, due to its similar shape to the character Hu 户.
Designed to be gently rotated in the hand to achieve a nice breeze while minimizing excess movement. Choose from a shorter or longer handle, either length is the perfect accessory for any pre-Tang Dynasty era.
