While this may just seem like the coolest trench coat of all time, to the trained eye its a historical treasure trove! The Wind of the Wilderness 旷野的风 Modern Song Dynasty Trench Coat draws inspiration from the ensembles of medieval Chinese outerwear.
The cape and collar are designed to imitate haoxiu 貉袖 (racoon dog sleeves). The haoxiu 貉袖 was a type of cropped jacket worn by both men and women of the Song Dynasty, featuring wide and square-like sleeves combined with duijin 对襟 (parallel panel style collar). On this coat, the haoxiu 貉袖 creates a tiered and layered effect. Can be buttoned at the center for a nice V-neck effect, or left open for a more flowy look.
The length of the coat draws inspiration from the beizi 背子 (long jacket). Long skinny sleeves, continued duijin 对襟 (parallel panel) lines, and side slits. Modern touches like a belt, buttons, and pockets make this a perfect choice for any outfit, modern or traditional.
